Founded in May of 1981 by Gerald Hirsch, Heritage Wine Cellars, Ltd., is owned and operated by Steven Hirsch, who worked alongside his father since the start-up years.

Jerry had a vision of creating a premium wine company focused on doing business by emphasizing face to face interaction, taking time to assist customers in developing successful wine programs. He wanted to establish an alternative to the national liquor distribution companies by establishing an independent fine wine only distributorship. Heritage Wine Cellars, Ltd., a progressive and innovative wine company was born.

Focusing on independent artisan producers with a compelling story and a vision to create a unique brand, Jerry setoff to spread his knowledge and passion for fine wine throughout Chicago.

Word soon spread about the Chicago area distributor that spent a significant amount of time teaching its staff and customers not only about vineyard designations and appellations, but the importance of the people producing these wines, and their passion behind what ends up in the bottle.

Before long, suppliers were approaching Jerry Hirsch, and asking to be a part of a company that truly shared the same ideals they held. Jerry carefully selected brands he felt fit with his vision and complemented one another. He selected quality producers from all of the world's greatest wine producing regions. He chose his suppliers after fully researching their core values. As a result, Heritage Wine Cellars maintains the top overall wine portfolio available in Chicagoland today, as recognized by top sommeliers and wine professionals in the marketplace.
